About Me

C/2006 P1 (McNaught)

This comet was discovered by R. H. McNaught (Siding Spring Observatory, Australia) on 2006 August 7.51, in the course of the Siding Spring Survey with the 0.5-m Uppsala Schmidt telescope. It very quickly became obvious that this comet was about twice the distance from the sun as Mars, but as the orbit was refined astronomers realized that this comet was going to pass very close to the sun around mid-January 2007. I obtained the following images during November 2006 and January 2007.
