This image is composed of two images obtained by G. W. Kronk of comet 17P/Holmes on 2007 October 25, after it had undergone a brightness outburst of 12-13 magnitudes. The image reveals the comet's increase in size during a seven-hour period. To the naked-eye, the comet's brightness did not seem to change during this period. Each image is a combination of 38 images obtained over a period of two minutes using a 20-cm Meade SCT, an f/3.3 focal reducer, and a MallinCam Hyper video camera.

Two images obtained about 13 hours apart from two different continents were put together by Timmermans to create an animation showing the comet's motion.

I. Wheelband stacked ten 1-minute exposures that he obtained on 2007 November 10, using a Skywatcher ED100 Pro telescope and an SBIG STL-11000M camera. The stack was centered on the nucleus. He processed the image to bring out details within the coma.

L. Benschop obtained this image of comet 17P/Holmes on 2007 November 11. It is composed of three 30-second exposures obtained using a Canon 400D with a 75-300mm USM lens @ 75mm. The camera was set at ISO 1600 and was mounted on a tracking platform. The Alpha Persei Cluster, also known as "Mel 20" is just below the comet.
